If you are a die-hard fan of Cricket and like to follow every international match bit by bit, this one is just for you. GillyCricket is an open source application which provides the scores of each match Live. The scores of a Live match reach your screen within a fraction of seconds.
Prasanna Venkadesh, the maker of the app, informed, "By using this app in your desktop, you can get the live score in maximum 6-7 seconds and minimum of 4 seconds, even if you have a slow Internet Connection! Obviously, time consumed will be less in a fast Internet connection."
They say necessity is the mother of invention. For this app, it was Venkadesh's necessity which inspired him to design something like this. He said, "I was in a place where I did not have fast Internet connection and television. All I had was a slow USB wireless Internet connection. IPL 2012 was going on and I wanted to keep myself updated with the scores. But the slow Internet connection was a major trouble. So, I thought of making an app that really fetches score faster even in slower connection."
Venkadesh has designed two versions of this app - a basic version and an advanced version. The basic version and advanced version differ by GUI and the source from where the score is being fetched. Other than that both have same speed as mentioned above. The advanced version is still under development but, can also be used now, said Venkadesh.
.
He said, "The advanced version's development was forked and started by Sibi (via Facebook), one of my friends and we have planned to enhance it better. The basic version of this app can be run on Linux and Windows (64 bit only for Windows), may be even in Mac. I have developed this in Python and the fact that Python is cross-platform, it can run seamlessly in Mac as well, provided it is installed properly."
.
This app has been taken to Android platform as well. Venkasdesh shared, "To my surprise, a friend of mine called Ganesh Katrapati took this app to Android platform too. He used the source code and modified the Python code to a Java code and made it available for Android users. Every Android user can use it, irrespective of the smartphone." The app is a free software under GPL licence. Download the app for Linux and Windows from here and for Android from here.
