LG Electronics has partnered with free mobile messaging app Line to create a service that allows users to send messages to LG appliances and instruct tasks.

The service, dubbed HomeChat, relies on Natural Language Processing (NLP) to send the text messages and works on Android, BlackBerry, iOS, Nokia Asha, and Windows Phone devices as well as OS X and Windows computers.

According to CNET, the feature of 'chatting' with the appliance means that it should be able to process messages like 'I'm going on vacation' and automatically go to a power-saver mode or run auto-programmes.

Users can also communicate with a single appliance, as needed; for example, when Hom-Bot Square is asked "When did you last clean?", the device would be able to tell how long it's been since the user last ran the vacuum.
