The notification count on each app shortcut on our home screen is something which is there for a long time. Nova launcher also had this feature through Tesla unread count app which is separate from the launcher itself. Now, with the latest beta Nova has decided to modify things a bit so that this feature is a little more useful. Instead of showing the count of notifications, there'll be an icon to tell what's happening inside the app.
For example, if you got an SMS the app will show the contact picture who sent the sms instead of the number 1. Similarly is you got a missed call it will show the missed call icon instead of the number 1.
You can register for beta in the play store and download it.
