A non-bailable warrant was issued by the Anantpur court on Friday against Indian cricketer MS Dhoni for a controversial magazine cover in 2013 cover showing him as Hindu god, Vishnu. According to reports, India’s limited-overs skipper has been asked to be present in court on 25th February.
Jayakumar Hiremath, a social activist, claimed Dhoni had hurt Hindu sentiments in 2013 for being on the magazine cover of Business Today where he was depicted as Vishnu holding a number of things. After the complaint, a case was registered under section 295 and 34 of the Indian Penal code.
In September 2015, the Supreme Court had stayed the criminal proceedings against Dhoni in the case after he said that he did not pose as god and didn't receive any remuneration or money for the news article or for usage of his picture on the cover page of the magazine..
Dhoni is currently on tour to Australia where India will play five ODIs and three T20Is against the hosts from January 12-31.
