WASHINGTON: Smartphone-maker Nokia's latest ad for its first tablet running Microsoft operating system takes a dig at rival Apple's iPad. The ad claims that unlike Apple iPad, Lumia tablet can be used in the brightest of lights and is suitable for outdoor use.

Though it doesn't mention iPad directly, the tablet used by several characters in the ad closely resembles the new iPad Air and has similar icons. The ad aims to highlight the superior sunlight visibility of Lumia 2520 while criticizing the 'supposedly' poor legibility of iPad's screen under sunlight.

The ad is set in a sunny park where a woman taking his dog for a walk is using what appears to be an iPad. However, the woman is so troubled by the poor sunlight visibility of the iPad that she does not have the time to play with her pet. The dog roams around the park, looking for people who will play with him, but all of them are struggling with the poor screens of their tablets and are sitting in the shade, so that they can view the screen properly.

However, the dog chances upon a man with a frisbee who is using a Lumia 2520 tablet. This tablet's screen is much clearer and is readable under direct sunlight. Using the Nokia tablet, he calls upon others in the park via instant messages and orders pizza for everyone online.

The dog, seeing so many people around, happily plays around and the ad ends on a happy note, with the message "Get out and play. The Nokia Lumia 2520 with full screen and best outdoor readability."
