Toyota is rolling out the all-new Fortuner to regain its throne from the SUV's arch rival, the Ford Endeavour.
When the new Endeavour came out, it dethroned the Toyota Fortuner from the top spot of the premium SUV segment. The Endeavour was priced very aggressively and had a lot to offer over the old generation Fortuner.
Ford has recently reduced the prices of the Endeavour up to Rs 2.82 lakh, making it a lot more economical than the competition. That said, the Fortuner is returning in its latest generation and is ready to take on the American SUV on November 07, 2016.

Despite missing the 2016 Auto Expo, Toyota Fortuner was supposed to arrive in the country in 2017. But, looking at the ever growing popularity of the Endeavour, Toyota has preponed the launch of the SUV to this festive season. The all-new Fortuner is already on sale in the Australian and other Asian markets and we expect a similar spec model to arrive in our country. Let's have a look at what the All-new Toyota Fortuner has to offer.
Mechanicals and Platform
Similar to the current model, the new Fortuner will also borrow its powertrains from the current generation Innova Crysta. Toyota has brought a new let of diesel engines to the Innova in the form of a 2.4-litre (2-GD-FTV) and a 2.8-litre (1-GD-FTV) four-cylinder unit. While the power figures will remain the same, the engines will be tuned to produce more torque. Like the Innova Crysta, the Fortuner might also come with a petrol engine, the same 2.7-litre dual VVT-i unit. The transmission duties will be carried by a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic in the 2.4-litre diesel and the 2.7-litre petrol. The 2.8-litre diesel is likely to come only with the six-speed automatic.
Like the older Fortuner, the new SUV will also be a body-on-frame approach but will use a brand-new chassis, similar to the one on the Innova.
Design
The two Fortuners look far from similar. The old generation SUV had a lot more butch and muscle but the new one parts way with those aspects and adds a little flamboyance to the design.

The upcoming Fortuner has a large chrome grille which is flanked by sleek Bi-beam LED projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights. The sides have squared-off wheel arches, a kink below the C-pillar and huge 18-inch alloy wheels. The rear profile features sleek tail lamps which resemble the headlamp design and features LED graphics. All these elements make the Fortuner look youthful and sporty.

Features and Safety
The old Fortuner became outdated in terms of features the day Ford introduced the all-new Endeavour. Now, with this update, the Fortuner will also get most of the features of the Endeavour.
In terms of features, the Fortuner will come with a 7-inch capacitive-based touchscreen system (similar to the Innova), which will have Toyota's T-Connect support. Additionally, this unit also supports DVD playback, Bluetooth phone integration, USB and Aux-in and support for the rear camera (it also has parking sensors). This unit will be connected to a six-speaker setup and to finish things off nicely, the SUV also features a shark-fin antenna.
The instrument cluster has a larger central MID screen in the middle of the two dials, which displays the SUVs information along with other relevant stuff. The upholstery will be done in leather with a 60:40 and 50:50 folding second and third rows, respectively. Also, the driver seat and the boot gate will be power operated and the first and second row will get climate control air conditioning.

The new Fortuner will only come with the shift-on-fly four-wheel-drive system. Also, the automatic transmission variants will have paddle shifters behind the steering wheel. In terms of safety, the SUV will feature seven airbags, ABS (anti-lock Braking system) with EBD (electronic brake- force distribution), BA (brake assist), VSC (vehicle stability control) TRC (traction control) HAC (hill-start assist control) and DAC (downhill assist control).
