Netflix is bidding adieu to the star ratings. The US based popular streaming service is replacing its five star rating system in favour of a thumbs up/thumbs down one.

A report from Variety said, previously given star ratings will still be used to personalize the profiles of Netflix users. Netflix first introduced the new thumbs up and down ratings with hundreds of thousands of subscribers in 2016. The streaming service’s VP of Product Todd Yellin said that thumbs up and down got 200 percent more ratings than the star-rating feature.

Five stars feels very yesterday now. We’re spending many billions of dollars on the titles we’re producing and licensing, and with these big catalogs, that just adds a challenge.

The switch to thumbs up and thumbs down rating will take place in April and will roll out globally. The Variety report also added that Netflix is initiating a new percentage feature that will use algorithms to show how likely you will enjoy a movie or a show before watching it.
