Netflix has one of the largest production budgets globally. Do you see the same growing over the years?
We are ramping up, including in India. We are continuing to invest in writers, in production facilities. We want to have normal stories of Indian life and help share them across the world.

Will Netflix ever become a mass-market service or will it continue to remain premium?
We will remain a premium player, at least for the next couple of years, as we do the high-end shows and big productions. They are mostly in Hindi and English. So, we are still not in regional languages and our focus is to not having ads. Having a high-end approach is good for us and it is generating great growth. Ultimately, we have to look at the very long term, but that’s after we have great success in doing spectacular content.

We got lucky due to Jio, says Netflix CEO

Netflix’s CEO Reed Hastings says that the Global internet TV network will be a giant exporter of Indian stories in the future.
Hastings was in the national capital at the Global Business Summit to speak on “How Technology is Changing Media”, on Friday.
Netflix is expanding its India slate with the addition of three new originals — “Leila”, “Ghoul” and “Crocodile” and the officials also announced on Friday, the addition of the three series.
They will join a larger slate of original productions out of India including “Sacred Games”, “Selection Day”, and “Bard of Blood”.
Speaking on the Indian market for the video-streaming giant, Hastings stressed that the company plans on optimising the gap in India where “Indian TV production value is much lower than the rest (of the world) “.

What is good in this news ?? Nobody cares if it remains free or premium as long as it don't acquire any sports ( especially cricket ) in india . Hotstar is far behind of Netflix in terms of quality and quantity of content still it leads market because of cricket streaming. Beside this Amazon provides early access , quick delivery so it too has managed to grab 2nd position . As long as Netflix has none of these , it ll miss to tap huge indian market , and eventually would be forced to change strategy in india

Why 2 threads for same news ??
edited by mod so now one thread and good news is thats atleast cost for subscription will come down because netflix is still not affordable for many which has great content library and to veiw 4k content along with subcrition of 800 per month we need fast internet which too cost abomb atleast for now. Atleast when he answer to question regarding pricing he know that its premium price and surely they will reduce it or will get out of mass adoption.

Well he clearly said that Netflix will remain premium. He did not say price will come down . It would be good news only when they say we are bringing prices down or changing strategy for india :gn:

Netflix will never make money in India with its current pricing and content strategy. 92% of its subscriber base in India is people exploiting the first free month through multiple user accounts. If they want to make money they will have to adopt an approach like Amazon prime and provide annual subscription under 999.

Beside that torrent access is easily available . So no one would pay 500 per month for content only
