You can soon hit 120 kilometre per hour on expressways in India with the government learnt to have approved higher speed limits for cars. The proposal was cleared by Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday

According to a Times Of India report, while the speed limit for cars has been increased to 100 kilometres per hour from 80 kilometres per hour on national highways, the maximum speed limit for cars on expressways has been set at 120 kmph. As per reports, the proposal was cleared by Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday and a notification in this regard is expected soon. The development comes as part of regular speed limit revisions that the Union government undertakes from time to time as road infrastructure improves.

To ensure better security for commuters on highways and expressways, the Ministry has also approved an electronic control unit which will not allow vehicles to go at very high speeds. As per the decision, two-wheelers will be allowed to ply at a maximum speed of 80 kmph on highways and expressways. For buses and trucks, the speed limit has been set at 90kmph on expressways and 80 kmph on national highways.

Now, zip along expressways at 120 kmph as Modi government clears higher speed limits
