After failing to break the deadlock with the Aam Aadmi Party, former BJP parliamentarian Navjot Singh Sidhu has launched his own party in Punjab ahead of Assembly Elections in the state.
Sidhu, who had stunned everyone by resigning from the Rajya Sabha on the opening day of the Monsoon Session on July 18, has formed the party with former hockey captain Pargat Singh and Bains brothers.
The new party has been named "Awaaz-e-Punjab".
Meanwhile, news agency ANI has quoted Sidhu's wife Navjot Kaur as saying that the new front will be against those working against Punjab.
The announcement of the new party is as surprising as Sidhu's decision to quit Rajya Sabha.
Last month, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had said that Sidhu had not put any pre-conditions on joining the AAP and needed time to think over the issue.
Reports had said that Sidhu wanted the AAP to project him as the chief ministerial candidate; however the party was reluctant to do so.
