After the demonetization, Narendra Modi has been a trending topic, whether it be in a conversation, a debate, or in this case, be the most searched app in his name on Apple’s App Store or Google’s Play Store. Right now, if you look at the top trending apps on the Indian App Store, all ten of them are for the Narendra Modi app, with searches like namo app, narendra modi app, narendra modi, pm modi, pmo india, namo, trending on the top. For that matter, Google Play Stor e too is full of searches for the Narendra Modi app as well.
In addition to the two app stores, since yesterday, Google Trends also shows a spike in search for the Narendra Modi app. If you look at the graph below, the search has been flat since last week, however, yesterday morning the interest over time of the keyword saw a sudden spike, with it shooting up to 100 percent at one point last night.
This sudden surge in trend comes soon after the Prime Minister yesterday released a survey on his app to seek public opinion on the demonetization move. Consequently, a Demonetization Survey was released on the official Narendra Modi app, which had questions on whether one thinks there is black money in India, and whether people mind the inconvenience faced in the ‘fight to curb corruption and black money’.
The survey has a total of 10 questions ranging from some generic ones such as “Do you think the evil of corruption and black money needs to be fought and eliminated?” and “Do you think that black money exists in India?” to which users can respond in ‘Yes’ or ‘No’. The survey further asks users to rate the move of banning the old currency notes. At the end of the survey, users can share their suggestions with Narendra Modi on the demonetization. With more than half the nation still reeling under the cash crisis following demonetization of the Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, people have flocked to the app stores to share their opinion with their Prime Minister.
While the factual figure of the general opinion on the move can only be known if and when the Prime Minister releases the result of the survey, but a recent nationwide C-Voter Poll suggests, demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes is being seen positively by a large part of the population cutting across the lines of age, income levels and area of residence. A whopping 80-86 percent of those surveyed said the inconvenience caused by the demonetization is worth the effort of combating black money.
To add to the trend, an app called ‘Keynote Modi’ has been trending on the Google Play Store for a few days now. Developed by Barra Skull Studios, a Bangalore based-startup, the app displays Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech on black money and demonetization, projected over the new Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 notes.
