Sistema Shyam Teleservices (SSTL), which offers mobile and data services under the brand MTS, on Monday announced dirt cheap internet calling tariff plans, which would cost as low as 10 paise per minute for domestic or international calls using any over-the-top (OTT) voice service apps like WhatsApp, Viber, Google Chat, Messenger and Skype.
SSTL said in a statement that prepaid customers would get 5 GB data for Rs 499 which translates to 5,000 minutes of internet calls anywhere. Similarly, postpaid customers can opt for rental plans starting Rs 599 for 10 GB data.
While these packages are specifically aimed at consumers who are heavy users of data and VoIP services, regular packages will continue to be in force. Even in these data packages normal voice service will be allowed.
MTS India’s chief marketing officer Sandeep Yadav said: “MTS India does not support any discrimination or preferential treatment when it comes to internet services. It is our belief that the freedom to access and use internet services the way a customer wants should rest with the customer himself. Our latest “Anti-Zero Rating Plans” allow customers the freedom to use data for internet calling if they wish to. Simply put, the Rs 499 plan which offers 5GB data will translate into 5000 minutes of internet calls.”
With new tariff structure for internet calls MTS subscribers would pay almost 75% less for national and international internet calls using Voice of Interet Protocol (VoIP) apps in comparision to what they are charged while dialing through mobile networks.
SSTL has over 55% of its revenue through non voice services and is looking at fully optimizing its resources. It has mobile operations in just nine of 22 telecom circles in the country.
MTS internet plans for prepaid users are 1 GB for Rs 198, 2GB for Rs 248, 3GB for Rs 399, 5 GB for Rs 499 and 7 GB for Rs 699 all valid for 28 days. Similarly for postpaid users, for 10 GB data the monthly rental plan is of Rs 599, 14 GB for Rs 799, 24 GB for Rs 999 and 30 GB for Rs 1999
