Google’s newest sweet treat, Android 7.0 Nougat, has finally arrived for Moto Z users in India. Keeping with its promise, Motorola has officially released the Android OS update to the smartphone. Along with getting Nougat features such as split-screen multi-tasking, customisable quick settings and new Google keyboard, the Moto Z will now also support Google’s Daydream View VR headset. The dedicated hardware requires compatible Android Nougat smartphone for offering immersive video experience. However, Indian users will have to wait for the headset to debut in the country to be able to use the Moto Z for VR experience.

Although the Motorola’s official software support page does not list the Moto Z , BGR India reached out to the company which has confirmed that the update has indeed been rolled out to the Moto Z smartphone. The Moto Z is the company’s first smartphone to boast a design that allows for swappable mods to enhance sound, battery, and camera. However, unlike the LG G5 which comes with modular components, the Moto Z mods are like snap-on cases, making them more user-friendly.

To update to the latest software, make sure your device is connected to power. Go to Settings> About Phone> System Update> Check Now. After the Moto Z, it is expected that the Moto G4 line of smartphones, including the G4 and G4 Plus, will be the next to receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update before the end of this year. The Moto X line of smartphones is expected to receive the update early next year followed by the Moto Z Play.

Android 7.0 Nougat brings compatibility to the smartphone for use with the Google Daydream View VR headset. Considering the Moto Z is available with a JBL SoundBoost speaker mod (priced at Rs 6,999), one could expect the entire VR experience going a notch up with the enhanced sound. In terms of specification, the Moto Z features a 5.5-inch quad HD display offering 2560×1440 pixel resolution. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz, paired with Adreno 530 GPU and 4GB of RAM. The Moto Z comes with 64GB onboard storage along with an option to further expand the storage.

For smartphone photography enthusiasts, the Moto Z comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash, optical image stabilization (OIS), 4K video recording at 30fps and full HD video recording at 60fps. Up front is a 5-megapixel shooter for selfies and video calling. It draws its juice from a 2,600mAh battery that comes with Turbo Charging support which is claimed to offer talktime of up to eight hours with just 15 minutes of charging. Connectivity options include 4G LTE with VoLTE voice calling support, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, NFC and Bluetooth 4.1. For charging, data transfer and audio output, Motorola Moto Z is equipped with USB Type-C port. The Moto Z is priced at Rs 39,999 with add-on mods priced at Rs 5,999 onwards.
