Moto E is the watered down version of Moto G, which in itself is a spec-rich phone.Flipkart, leading e-commerce website which has exclusive rights to sell Moto G and Moto X will be selling the Moto E as well.

Moto E sports a 4.3-inch scratch resistant touch screen of a screen resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. Powered by a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, coupled with 1GB of RAM, the phone runs the latest version of Android, KitKat (4.4.2). On the connectivity front, you have support for 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, and device’s 4GB internal memory, which is kind of a downer, can be expanded upto 32GB via microSD card.

A 5MP shooter at the back, with a minimal secondary camera, along with 1900mAh battery do make Moto E a feature and spec rich device for its price range

Why does Moto E (or any Motorola phone) matter

Google doesn’t make smartphones. It’s not a mobile hardware company. What it does is, roll out the software, Android to other mobile manufacturers such as Samsung, HTC, LG, Motorola etc. But then Google bought Motorola, and now with a hardware manufacture in house, it was believed that Motorola will get speedy software updates and some exclusive features. To a great extent, that is exactly what happened.

Quick Updates

There are several mobile OEMs (manufacturers), which take a lot of time to push Android’s new update to their handsets. Then there is an update cycle that all the mobile companies follow, under which, there is only a couple of updates a mobile is allowed to get.

Motorola got the KitKat update to its Moto X and Moto G phones within days after Google’s announcement. It beat any other company, especially Samsung, which is the biggest and most successful Android mobile manufacturer, at rolling out updates.

Almost pure Android experience
The mobile partners often put some company’s applications and bloatwares on the phone. Motorola on the other hand is the closest you can get to see a clean and pure Android.

Value for money: Spec and feature rich phones
Motorola is onto something, it is making incredibly spec-rich devices at an unmatched affordable price point. Plus, its commitment to provide update cycle to its handsets is awe-inspiring.

Success of Moto G

Perhaps the best mid-level smartphone your money can buy, Moto G is company’s fastest and most successful device till date (sold over 6.5 million units in 2014). It has done incredibly well here in India as well.

Best features at this price point:
Dual core snapdragon processor
1GB RAM
5 MP camera
expandable memory, dont have to shell out more for more memory for 16 gb variants
1980mAH battery
Comes with kitkat version of android

Let downs:
No flash
No secondary camera

overall a very guy buy for Rs6999

Motorola has entered the sub-Rs 10,000 segment with the new Moto E smartphone. Just like Moto G and X, Moto E will be exclusively available via online retailer Flipkart in the domestic market. The new smartphone is priced at Rs 6,999 and it will be up for sale starting May 14.

Moto E has a 4.3-inch display with 960x540p resolution, making it the only smartphone offering a high quality display at this price point. The dual sim phone runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat) and packs a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor, with 1GB RAM and 4G internal memory. Unlike Moto X and G, this phone supports microSD cards for storage expansion.

The budget offering of Motorola sports a 5MP camera on the back, but does not have rear LED flash and front camera. It can access the internet over 2G, 3G and Wi-Fi networks, while data can be transferred via microUSB 2.0 and Bluetooth 4.0. The smartphone has a 1,980mAh battery and Motorola claims it can last a whole day once fully charged.

Moto E will come with 20 user-removable back covers. Motorola is eyeing the large number of mobile phone users who are switching from feature phones to budget smartphones with Moto E.

Motorola promises that it will upgrade Moto E to the next version of Android.
