Even before Motorola launched the new Moto Z and Moto Z Force, rumors started floating that the company may do away with the Moto X-line of smartphones. However, the alleged Moto X (2016) did show up in a couple of recent leaks and benchmark listings. Now, a smartphone bearing model number XT1662 has been certified by China’s CCC (China Compulsory Certificate). The CCC certificate is a safety mark issued for smartphones manufactured and imported in the country.
Now, while the certification only hints at the model number, other details about the specifications and features are missing at the moment. However, a device with the same model number was recently spotted on GFXBench, which revealed some of its key specifications and features. It could be launched as Moto X Play (2016) or simply as Moto X (2016).
As per the listing, the smartphone was spotted with a 4.6-inch full HD (1080p) display. Powered by MediaTek’s MT6755 (Helio P10) octa-core SoC running at 2.1GHz, it is paired with 3GB of RAM and Mali-T860 MP2 GPU. With 32GB of onboard storage, the listing doesn’t mention if it is expandable or not. In the photography department, a 16-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel selfie camera is expected onboard.
On the software front, the Moto X (2016) is likely to come pre-installed with Android Marshmallow 6.0.1. In terms of connectivity, Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11ac and 4G LTE are expected. While other details about pricing and availability are scarce at the moment, the smartphone clearing the certification would mean that the launch could be closer.
