Looks like Lenovo -owned Motorola is all set and ready with its 2017 flagship smartphones. As is the tradition that Motorola has been following with its phones, the new year’s flagship variant will also come with a ‘Plus’ variant. The phones will be an addition in the G series, and will be reportedly named Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus. While all the attention had still been on the Moto Z and Moto Z Play, the latest leak has revealed a bunch of details and few images of the purported Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus smartphones. There have been three images leaked, two of which, show the front of the Moto G5 and G5 Plus, and one is a screenshot of a table, which is believed to be the specifications of the smartphones in question.

The front image of both the phones reveal that only the Moto G5 Plus will feature a fingerprint sensor, which will be placed beneath its home button. The Moto G5, on the other hand, does not seem to be sporting any fingerprint sensor. Otherwise, going by the looks, both the smartphones look almost identical.

Moving to the leaked specs, the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus will both feature a 5.5-inch Full HD display. Both the smartphones will be powered by an octa-core processor, and both will come with a turbo charging support. Additionally, even on the camera front, both Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus will feature a 5MP front facing camera.

However, according to the area of differences include, the main camera, which is 13-megapixel on the Moto G5 and 16-megapixel on the G5 Plus, and the storage option, which on the Moto G5 is 16GB, however, the G5 Plus would further come in two variants, with a 16GB and 32GB internal storage support. Then of course, as mentioned earlier, only the Moto G5 Plus will feature a fingerprint sensor.

In addition to the leaked images and the specifications, the speculated launch date for the smartphones have also been revealed. March 8 is being expected is the date of launch, however, which market would get the smartphone first has not been mentioned. Also, note that, at the end of the day, these still are rumors and none of it has yet been confirmed by the company.

Talking about the G series, earlier this year, Motorola launched the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus. The smartphones were priced in the mid-range segment, with the Moto G4 being launched at Rs 12,499 and the Moto G4 Plus at Rs 13,499. Similar to the leaked specifications of the Moto G5 and G5 Plus, the Moto G4 and G4 Plus also features almost the specifications, except that the Moto G4 Plus 16GB variant features a higher resolution 16-megapixel camera with laser auto-focus and PDAF, as compared to the G4’s 13-megapixel camera, as well as a fingerprint sensor that the Moto G4 lacks. Therefore looking at the similar trend in both the series, we could safely assume, that the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus could be priced in the mid-range segment.

The latest phones that came from the house of Motorola were the Moto Z and Moto Z Play. The smartphones, globally announced in June this year, drew a lot attention, specially for Moto Z’s unique ‘semi-modular’ concept that allows users to snap on an external module, branded as Moto Mods. These modules are connected to the smartphone through a ‘16 magnetic’ port. Motorola already has a range of modules to support the Moto Z, which includes JBL’s SoundBoost for audio boost, InstaShare for using smartphone as projector and Power Pack to enhance battery life up to 23 hours. There’s also a Hasselblad True Zoom camera mod.

Along with the semi-modular concept, the Moto Z is also one of the first few Android smartphones to skip 3.5mm audio jack, and support audio via USB. LeEco introduced a CDLA technology on its Le2 series of smartphones. The technology is said to deliver lossless and improved audio quality via USB. Apple has also ditched the 3.5mm audio jack in its iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus smartphones.

Along with the Moto Z, Motorola also launched the Moto Z Play smartphone in India. Unveiled at IFA 2016 this year, Motorola had extensively advertised the battery capacity of the smartphone. Featuring a 3,510mAh battery, it is said to deliver up to 50 hours of backup on ‘mixed usage’. It also comes with Motorola’s fast charging technology TurboPower that can deliver up to nine hours worth of power in 15 minutes of charging.
