Misbah-ul-Haq has been suspended for a Test and will have to pay 40 percent of his match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate in the first Test against New Zealand, International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Monday (November 21).

The rest of the Pakistan players have been fined 20 percent of their match fees after the charges were laid by Ian Gould and S Ravi, the on-field umpires, who found Pakistan to be two overs short when time allowances were taken into consideration.

According to the ICC Code of Conduct in relation to over-rate offences, players are fine 10 percent of the match fees, and the captain is fined double the amount, for every over the side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

A second minor rate offence in the same format of the game, if committed within a 12-month time-frame, will mean immediate suspension for the captain in the subsequent international game of the same format. This was Misbah's second offence with the first one happening during the Test against England at The Oval in August this year.

The ban will not be carried over to the next Test or the next series. "The Code provides for a suspension to be carried forward to a subsequent match if the match where the suspension applies is cancelled, postponed or abandoned, which is not the case here," the ICC clarified.

However, this isn't likely to affect Misbah as he was set to miss the second Test after the demise of his father-in-law. Misbah had left for Pakistan on Sunday (November 20) to be with his critically ill father-in-law, who had been admitted to intensive care.

Pakistan lost the first Test by eight wickets in Christchurch inside three days and will aim to square the series in Hamilton starting from November 25.
