Microsoft Will Soon Release Universal Skype App For Windows 10

Last year Microsoft discontinued the touch Skype app for Windows 8 and made separate messaging and video calling applications for Windows 10. Many users questioned why didn’t it just come out with a universal Skype app for Windows 10. Microsoft has been listening to customer feedback and it has indeed decided to come out with a universal Skype app for Windows 10.
“We also learned from this feedback is that as the screen size gets bigger—large tablets, 2 in 1s and PCs for example—and you begin to use the apps, expectations shift and people want to limit app clutter,” says a Skype spokesperson, adding that this is why it’s introducing the Skype Universal Windows Platform app.
The new app is basically an improvement on the current Skype app with some new experiences. It has simplified the look and feel by removing duplicative and unnecessary menus. The global menus are in a new single Settings menu and contextual menus will appear in upcoming releases.
The app has all of the core features of Skype and in the next couple of releases, it will get the ability to start a chat with anyone using or not using Skype, group voice and video calling, screen sharing and much more.
Skype Universal Windows Platform Preview will initially be released only for Windows 10 Insider program members, it’s easy to sign up while the final release for Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile will arrive later this year.
