Microsoft announced Windows 10 a few months back and for the first time, it was offered as a free upgrade on a reservation basis. With over 110 million devices currently running the OS and OEM partners launching new devices,
Microsoft is getting aggressive about getting its OS to existing PC users running older Windows.
Microsoft is dropping its reserve and upgrade mechanism to favour automatic downloads as soon as you reserve your upgrades. Once downloaded, the users will be prompted whether to continue with the upgrade process. Once updated to Windows 10 , users still have 31 days to roll back to their previous version of Windows.
Microsoft said in its blog post that
Windows 10 will be published as an optional update in Windows Update for all Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users. Since most users update drivers and other Microsoft related services from Windows update, this will allow Redmond to reach out to even wider audience.

Microsoft also plans to make Windows 10 recommended update early next year allowing PCs running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 automatically upgrade to Redmond’s latest version of Windows operating system depending upon the Windows Update settings.
Microsoft’s Windows has been the most pirated thing of all time and Microsoft has announced new efforts to curb piracy. Myerson notes in his blog,” Microsoft will offer a one-click upgrade opportunity to get genuine Windows licenses from the Windows Store or through code purchased elsewhere.” Microsoft still doesn’t plan to offer free upgrade to users running pirated copy of Windows.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has a bold ambition of getting over 1 billion devices running Windows 10 withing three years of the release. While this new change in update system can be seen as a push to get Windows 10 on more devices,
Microsoft would be hoping that this doesn’t turn into a backlash from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 users.
