Telecom equipment manufacturer Microqual Techno Ltd today said it has entered into an agreement with Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) for deploying telecom equipment on power transmission towers of the state-run firm.
"To install telecom equipment on PGCIL power transmission towers, Microqual has partnered with Buckley Cable Construction Co Inc, a US-based company which has the expertise of deploying over thousands of solutions for various Power Utility companies in the US," Microqual Techno CEO Mahesh Choudhary said in a statement.

After a "careful survey", he said the company has decided to utilise about 10 per cent of the total PGCIL towers in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh for this deployment.

Going forward, he said, the company would "like" to roll out this solution on both pan India and on a global scale.

The company has already bid for a similar tender by Himachal State Electricity Board.

Mr George Ungerer, Chief Operating Officer of Buckley Cable Construction, said the US has over 30,000 such deployments and "have become a favoured choice of the utilities too, as this creates an additional revenue source".
