Micromax will reportedly announce its first two Windows Phone handsets on June 16 in New Delhi-based event, according to a report by The Times of India.
A new report claims that one of the device will cost somewhere between Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 11,000, while the other around would be priced between Rs. 6,000 - Rs. 7,000. Both devices will come under the company's Canvas series.
Micromax, however, has not confirmed whether they will announce the new Windows Phone 8.1 handsets on June 16.
The Times of India claims that Micromax may have been developing a high-end Windows Phone 8.1 smartphone, with a 5-inch FHD display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, but also adds the phone is not scheduled to appear any time soon.
Micromax was first confirmed as one of the OEMs for Windows Phone at this year's BUILD developer conference. The domestic vendor is one of the prime partners for Windows Phone in India, the other being Lava and Karbonn.
The forthcoming Windows Phone 8.1 smartphones from Micromax will likely to give rather tough competition to the Nokia-made Lumia series. Currently, Nokia is the only company selling Windows Phone 8.1 handsets in India. Nokia, still one of the world's largest phone makers recently launched the Lumia 630 in India last month. The Lumia 630 is priced between Rs. 10,500 and Rs. 11,500.
Windows Phone shipments are expected to surpass 43 million in 2014, a jump of nearly 30 percent over 2013's volumes. Between 2014 and 2018, IDC projects Windows Phone's market share to increase from 3.5 percent to 6.4 percent, with shipments expected to reach 115 million in 2018.
