Micromax has sent out invites for an event on 13 April with the hashtag #GutsToChange. It even has a timer running down to the date of the event on its home page. But that’s not all.
According to a report in India Today, Micromax is all set to launch its brand new logo as well as a new brand ambassador as well. Also Rahul Sharma, co-founder of Micromax and founder of YU, will be the main presenter at the launch event on 13 April.
Looks like Micromax has a lot going with this particular launch event. We have just learned about the strategic alliance between Micromax, Visa and TranServ to provide digital payment solutions on Micromax phones. The three companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) which will use Micromax’s mobile devices, Visa’s digital payment products and TranServ’s financial tech capabilities to promote the digital payment infrastructure.
Recently, there have been shake-ups in the company as well with Vineet Taneja quitting Micromax. It is believed that the four major promoters including Rahul Sharma have taken charge of the company after it went through a rough patch .
In terms of sales, in the final quarter of 2015, Micromax’s shipments fell by 12.1 percent, against growth of 15.4 percent for the sector, according to industry tracker IDC. Micromax’s share of the smartphone market fell to 13 percent in the fourth quarter from 22 percent at its peak in 2014, according to IDC. A large part of this decline can be attributed to the onslaught of Chinese smartphone makers entering the Indian market.
