Huawei is apparently getting very aggressive when it comes to top of the range smartphones. A French technology website, No Where Else, has published pictures of a new device which will carry the name Huawei Edge.

It is similar to Lenovo’s current top of the range handset, the IdeaPhone K900 as it appears to be using aluminium as its main building material.

The Edge – which is expected to be launched later this year - is said to be only 6.3mm thick which would make of it the thinnest smartphone on the market.

Featurewise, No Where Else, mentions, a 4.9in 1,920 x 1,080 pixel display, 2GB of RAM, 13-megapixel camera, a, 2,600mAh battery, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and 16GB or 32GB onboard storage.

No Where Else doesn’t mention any microSD card slot or socket input, both highly unlikely given the shape and dimensions of the device.

Huawei has ramped up the number of smartphones launched since the beginning of the year, across the board.

It introduced two high end models (the Ascend D2 and the Ascend Mate) at CES in Las Vegas, followed by the Huawei Ascend W1 (its first Windows Phone 8 handset) and the Ascend G510, an affordable Android handset that costs only £130.
