New Delhi, Jun 3: Sports Minister Ajay Maken has sanctioned ex-gratia assistance of Rs 2 lakh to former Indian hockey player Barbara J Francis from National Welfare Fund for Sportspersons.
Francis is suffering from several age related ailments and is now in indigent condition. Taking cognizance of her poor financial position, the Sports Minister sanctioned the ex-gratia payment to Francis.
Under the Scheme of National Welfare Fund for Sportspersons, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports provides for lump sum financial assistance to outstanding sportspersons of the past, who are facing financial distress.
