Travel conglomerate MakeMyTrip has up its ante in the race for travel planning and management apps for smartphones by unveiling free Android and iPhone apps today. The company's mobile app was only available for Blackberry users earlier.

These new apps allow users to search and book flights. Passenger details are stored on the device to avoid typing-in details each time one would like to book a flight, which will enable any future bookings with just a few taps. The app also provides additional travel-solutions like viewing booking details, making cancellations, requesting e-tickets and even tracking refunds.

"India is amongst the top five countries in the world in mobile search queries, growing at 170%, year-on-year. MakeMyTrip became one of the top five most downloaded travel apps in India with only the Blackberry app on offer. This overwhelming response encouraged us to extend our product offering to other popular mobile platforms. With this launch, all smartphone users will now be able to have a seamless experience with MakeMyTrip through their devices," claimed Amit Somani, chief products officer at MakeMyTrip.com.

Going beyond ticketing and planning travel, the application also uses the device's GPS capabilities to find restaurants close to your travel destination. Mobile transactions made through MakeMyTrip apps are supported by credit and debit cards of all major banks, as well as through net-banking.

In addition to the regular features, the app also provides alerts on flight schedules in real time. Users will receive personalised and instant details on exclusive travel deals. For the social bug, the app allows users to share their itineraries on Facebook and Twitter. The apps are available for free download on Google Play, the Apple App Store and the Blackberry app world.
