New Delhi: There were clashes between the Congress activists and police at the party's nyaya yatra in Lucknow on Monday. The police resorted to lathicharge to push back the protesting Congress workers. Congress state president Rita Bahuguna Joshi and 500 other Congress workers were taken into custody for flouting prohibitory orders.
Congress workers took out the rally though they were denied permission by the administration and section 144 was imposed in the area.
The rally was in protest against the Mayawati government's failure to check rising crime in Uttar Pradesh.
