Prediction: Like Yahoo, 'Google will disappear in 5 years'
Google could disappear in five to eight years and disappear in the sense that Yahoo used to be the king of search, predicts an analyst.
'Now, for all intents and purposes, Yahoo has disappeared,' Eric Jackson, founder of Ironfire Capital, a technology-focused hedge fund, said on CNBC.
Citing the main basis behind his prediction, he said, "Consumers are increasingly migrating to mobile applications and advertisers aren't willing to pay as much for a mobile ad."
"Other companies, such as Apple, will get ahead of Google in attracting advertisers to their mobile applications and Google's dominance will eventually start to shrink," Jackson predicted.
However, for now, Google remains dominant in online advertising with a 74.5 percent share of the US search ad market, according to data from eMarketer.
Just two days after Google’s third-quarter results were leaked bringing its shares down sharply, Microsoft Corp's quarterly profit fell a greater-than-expected 22 per cent. Is the worse yet to come for the global tech giants?
Just two months ago, Facebook shares fell nearly 50 per cent and worse was yet expected to come. Stock during its May initial public offering which stood at $38, closed at $20.38 on Aug 25, its second-lowest close ever and a 46 percent drop in 12 weeks. During the same time, Samsung shares dropped over 7% after Apple's patent victory.
