LG has announced it will be showcasing its next generation of smart televisions at CES 2015, which is scheduled to be held from January 6 to 9 in Las Vegas.
The South Korean consumer electronics giant in a statement on Thursday said the new lineup of TVs will feature the company's newest webOS 2.0 Smart TV platform.

The firm says its webOS 2.0 platform has been specifically designed to enhance the key features found in its current generation of Smart TVs.

LG says webOS 2.0 introduces a new level of "simplicity and convenience", allowing for easier content management. The platform's boot time has been reduced by up to 60 percent, and accessing content has been made smoother and faster - when switching from the Smart TV Home Screen to YouTube, LG says users will see an improvement in loading time of up to 70 percent.

LG is also touting the new My Channels feature in webOS 2.0, which allows users to add TV or set-top box channels on the Launcher Bar for easier access. The new Quick Settings lets viewers adjust TV settings without interruption, while the Input Picker allows connected devices to be recognized instantly.

LG also said it is working with content providers such as Amazon and Netflix to ensure that LG TV owners get a range of viewing options in 4K resolution.

The firm says webOS-enabled Smart TVs will have access to 4K resolution content on Netflix, including programs such as House of Cards and Marco Polo in 2015. Ultra HD content on Amazon includes movies such as After Earth, Elysium, The Amazing Spider Man 2 and The Da Vinci Code.

The South Korean firm said its webOS Smart TVs have found success since they were introduced earlier this year, topping the 1 million mark in unit sales in the first two months, and recording more than 5 million unit sales within eight months.

"With the newest features introduced in webOS 2.0, the overall user experience has become even simpler, easier and more intuitive," said In-kyu Lee, senior vice president and head of the TV and monitor division at the LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company. "The webOS platform is a great example of our commitment to taking a leadership role in the next generation TV market with a truly innovative Smart TV solution."
