LG surprised technology bloggers and the
users of LG G3 smartphone yesterday with an
announcement that it would offer the Android
Lollipop update for the phone this week.

"LG this week will begin rolling out the highly
anticipated Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade for G3
smartphones starting in Poland this week, to
be followed by other key markets in the near
future," the company said in a statement to
media. "LG, the first global smartphone
manufacturer to offer the Lollipop upgrade in
2014, will subsequently announce an upgrade
schedule for other LG mobile devices."

The announcement is surprising because
Google's own Nexus phones, including the LG-
made Nexus 5, are yet to get Android Lollipop
update. Usually, Nexus devices are first to get
Android-related updates released by Google.

Though for Android KitKat, in some markets
Motorola beat Google by offering updates for
its phones even before Nexus 4 received them.
The Android Lollipop was officially announced
as available in November. However, so far only
Nexus 9, which is a launch device for the new
version of the Android, has got it. There are
rumours that the Lollipop update for
smartphones has been delayed due to a Wi-Fi
bug and it is likely to be available only after
November 11, when the Nexus 6 will officially
go on sale.

In the last few years LG has been criticised for
failing to bring Android updates to its phones
without much delay. But it seems that this
year, the company is hoping to change it all.
"LG is absolutely committed to giving our
customers the best mobile experiences
available and bringing Android Lollipop to G3
owners as soon as possible is a top priority,"
said Dr Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of
the LG Electronics Mobile Communications.
"The new features and improvements in
Android 5.0 will bring a whole new user
experience to the G3."
LG may beat Google, will offer Lollipop update for G3 this week

So its good that LG is bringing Android Lollipop to G3 owners as soon as possible is a
top priority,"
