LG has revealed that the Optimus G Pro's successor is official, and will be launching next month, which happens to be right around MWC 2014, which is scheduled to be held from February 24 to February 27 in Barcelona. LG has dropped the Optimus moniker, calling the smartphone the G Pro 2.

The company made the announcement on its social newsroom, but apart from the name, LG hasn't revealed any further details about the G Pro 2's specifications.

The firm, currently best known for having manufactured the Google's two successful Nexus mobile devices, the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5, has been rumoured to be developing the G Pro 2 for quite a while.

Previous rumoured specifications for the G Pro 2 include a 6-inch display size along with a full-HD (1080 x 1920 pixel) resolution. The smartphone is also said to be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, paired with 3GB of RAM, according to the reports.

The previous rumoured specifications of the device indicated that the expected G Pro 2 would come with a 5.9-inch display with 1440x2560 QHD resolution. With more QHD screens entering the smartphone and tablet market, it is slightly difficult to expect the firm to come out with a 1080p screen, especially as its Ultra-HD mobile display technology is already being used by other manufacturers - as seen in the Vivo Xplay 3 S.

Some of the reports from Korea also hint the device to sport a fingerprint scanner following Apple's iPhone 5s and HTC One Max.
