Lenovo is set to launch a new smartphone under its ZUK sub-brand in the coming week. Dubbed, ZUK Edge, the smartphone is expected to boast a bezel-less display, similar to what we have seen on the recently launched Nubia Z11. Although according to a leaked teaser image on Weibo, the purported device will be unveiled on December 20. Ahead of the launch, there have been enough leaks and revelations giving us a fair idea of what the ZUK Edge might offer.

Based on the leaked images, it looks like the ZUK Edge will come with a large display with very thin bezels on the top and bottom. There have been also rumors about the purported smartphone featuring a physical home button in the front that would double up as a fingerprint sensor. From the bezel-less design to a new white color variant, here’s a roundup of all the rumors surrounding the anticipated ZUK Edge smartphone.

Design

Earlier, it had been rumored that the ZUK Edge will feature a Samsung Galaxy S7 edge-like dual-curved display. However, later the rumors hinted at the bezel-less design. Leaked images and some renditions further added weight to the edge-to-edge design. One of the renditions shows the smartphone sporting a white color with a combination of gold. In the said image, the front camera lens and the home button are also shown in white and bordered with gold rims, which also runs around the side of the smartphone. The power button along with the volume rocker is located on the right side in gold color. There have also been indications about the smartphone sporting a glass back.
However, newest image leak of the smartphone partially confirms the color design. According to the leak, the ZUK Edge sports white color both in the rear and front but doesn’t feature gold rims. The bezels not completely absent in the fresh leaks but are certainly at their thinnest. With narrow side bezels, the smartphone is expected to weigh around 160 grams and be 7.68mm at its thickest.

Other than thin side bezels and a white color variant, the ZUK Edge is speculated to feature a rounded-rectangular home button in the front that is most likely to come embedded with a fingerprint sensor. The rear camera module is placed in the top half of the smartphone with the flash placed right below it. The ZUK branding is placed at the lower half of the smartphone.

Specifications

The ZUK Edge has been already spotted on TENAA and AnTuTu benchmarking website, revealing some of its key specifications and features. Based on all the leaked specifications, the ZUK Edge could come with a 5.5-inch full HD display. Under the hood, we could expect Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 quad-core processor clocked at 2.35GHz paired with Adreno 530 GPU. Now there are some reports which indicate that the smartphone could feature a massive 6GB of RAM while others hint at 4GB of RAM. The smartphone is further likely to include 64GB of internal storage which is unlikely to be expandable.

For smartphone photography enthusiasts, the ZUK Edge is expected to come with a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash along with an 8-megapixel front camera for selfies. On the software front, the ZUK Edge might run the newest Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box. The smartphone is further expected to draw its juice from a 3,000mAh battery. It is unclear if it will be supported with fast charging capabilities. Connectivity options include Bluetooth, GPS, 4G LTE with VoLTE support and Wi-Fi 802.11ac.

The ZUK Edge was earlier expected to be launched on December 6. However, that did not happen. Now based on the company’s latest teaser shared on China’s popular social site Weibo, the smartphone could finally see the light of the day on December 20. When launched, the ZUK Edge would be the fourth smartphone under the ZUK series after ZUK Z1, ZUK Z2 and ZUK Z2 Pro.

Although the smartphone would be launched in China first, there are speculations which suggest that the ZUK Edge will be available in global markets in the first three months of 2017. So far, there has been no information about the pricing of ZUK Edge. But we can assume it to be somewhere in the mid-range category given the bezel-less design and the supposed addition of up to 6GB of RAM. However, one needs to take the rumors with a pinch of salt till the next week when the purported smartphone will be officially unveiled.
