Lendl Simmons ruled out of T20 WC 2016
Lendl Simmons, the West Indies cricket team opener, was ruled out of the upcoming T20 WC in India due to a back injury, West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) announced on Saturday (March 5) .
Simmons missed the West Indies camp in the United Arab Emirates but played six matches in the Pakistan Super League and scored 151 runs.
Simmons becomes the fourth player from West Indies to miss the T20 WC after Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard and Darren Bravo pulled out of the event.
The WICB is yet to name a replacement for Simmons
Simmons has been a part of the West Indies squad in the last three T20 WCs in 2009, 2012 and 2014. The right-handed batsman has played 34 T20Is and has scored 761 runs at an average of 25.36 and a strike rate of 113.92.
West Indies play English county Warwickshire in Dubai on Sunday before travelling to Kolkata on Monday ahead of the T20 WC in India, which begins on Tuesday, March 8 and runs until April 3.
They are in Group 1 along with England, Sri Lanka, South Africa and a qualifier.
