The Finance Ministry ministry on Wednesday scrapped customs duty on import of open cell TV panels in a bid to boost domestic manufacturing. Late last night, it said, "open cell, (15.6 inch and above), for use in the manufacture of Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) and Light Emitting Diode (LED) TV panel", would attract nil duty."
The TV industry has welcomed the move saying it will reduce the cost of manufacturing by three percent. The announcement comes just ahead of festive season and would positively impact the sales of LED TV panels.
