Lava has launched two new entry-level smartphones, called the A50 and the A55. Both smartphones are currently listed on the company’s official website although their availability details are not known as yet. The Lava A50 is priced at Rs 3,999, while the Lava A55 is priced at Rs 4,399. The smartphones are both available in two color options of black and silver.

Although the Lava A55 smartphone is priced higher than the Lava A50, there isn’t much difference between the two smartphones. The only difference is that the Lava A55 comes with 1GB of RAM, while the Lava A50 comes with 512MB of RAM. Both the smartphones bear resemblance in terms of look and design as well. The smartphones come with the selfie camera lens and speaker grille located above the display with the capacitive touch buttons below. The rear camera lens with LED flash can be seen located on the centre with the speaker grille placed just next to it. The Lava branding is also seen located below the rear camera lens. While the power button and volume rocker are placed on the right side of the smartphone, the USB port is located on the left side.

Lava A50, Lava A55 specifications

Both the Lava A50 and the Lava A55 smartphones have a similar set of specifications. To begin with, the smartphones feature a 4-inch WVGA display. Under the hood, runs a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz. While the difference lie in the RAM, both the smartphones come onboard storage of 8GB which is expandable up to 32GB via a microSD card.

For photography, the smartphones sport a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash. Up front, the smartphones house a VGA camera. The smartphones are further equipped with some camera features like Time Lapse, Slow Motion and Face beauty. On the software front, the Lava A50 and the Lava A55 both run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The smartphones are powered by a 1,550mAh battery. The connectivity options offered by the smartphone include dual-SIM support, 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Considering how the wave of Reliance Jio’s 4G service took over the latter half of 2016, the entry-level smartphone market has emerged as a competitive one. Reliance Digital smartphones itself come with 4G VoLTE support, and at affordable prices as cheap as Rs 2,999. Even keeping aside the 4G VoLTE factor, there are smartphones in the same price range which can give good competition to the newly launched Lava smartphones.

For the Lava A50, the Intex Cloud Scan FP priced at Rs 3,999 can give good competition. The Intex Cloud Scan FP features a 5-inch FWVGA display. Under its hood, runs a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz and paired with 1GB of RAM. The smartphone comes with 8GB onboard storage which can be expanded up to 128GB. For photography, the smartphone sports a 5-megapixel rear camera with auto-focus and dual LED flash, and a 5-megapixel selfie camera with auto-focus as well. The Intex Cloud Scan FP runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and is powered by a 2,450mAh battery.

The Lava A55 could face good competition from the Reliance Digital LYF F8 smartphone. Priced at Rs 4,199, the smartphone features a 4.5-inch FWVGA IPS display with AGC Glass protection. Under its hood, runs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 210 quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz. In the photography department, the smartphone sports an 8-megapixel rear camera with auto-focus and a 5-megapixel selfie camera. The smartphone runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and is powered by a 2,000mAh battery. In addition to this, the smartphone comes with 4G VoLTE support.
