Kingston announced the launch of DataTraveler 4000 G2 and the DataTraveler Vault Privacy 3.0, USB drives with 256 bit AES hardware encryption. The implementation of the cryptography is FIPS certified. FIPS is the Federal Information Processing Standard, which accredits and certifies implementations of encryption. The USB drives can be remotely or locally managed with DataLocker’s SafeConsole Encryption Management Platform.

The management features are exhaustive. Passwords can be reset remotely over any channel. There is no master password, but forgotten passwords can be securely reset. There are detailed auditing features, with the drives logging unsuccessful access attempts and state changes in the drive. File auditing lets administrators see the history of file names, as well as check which files have been deleted or copied to and from the drive. There is a remote kill option to handle loss, theft or rogue employees.

The management system has an inactivity lock, that prevents the drive from being used after a configurable period of inactivity. There is a white-list filetype restrictor, that allows storage of only specified file extensions in the drive. The drive has onboard autorun protection to prevent hijacking by malicious programs. Geolocation and Geofencing is possible using IP-based location tracking. This allows use of the drive in only specified areas.

“Human error, malicious attacks and technical failures can place employee and corporate data at risk. Companies, agencies and organizations need to implement a security policy well before anything goes wrong as it’s critical to prevent non-compliance, fines and even financial loss,” said Nathan Su, Flash Memory Sales Director, APAC Region, Kingston. “Our latest encrypted managed USB drives, the recent IronKey acquisition and growing DataLocker partnership all demonstrates Kingston’s commitment to providing the most secure and largest family of encrypted USB solutions on the market.”
