Kenya's Under 19 squad are in Uganda facing tough opposition as they prepare for the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup Qualifier later this month.

The squad are taking on the full Uganda team in a series of matches before participating in the ACA Twenty20 event also in Uganda. There they will face the senior teams from Uganda, Namibia, Nigeria and Ghana. The squad will then travel to England for a pre-tournament camp and warm up matches on 20th July before travelling on to the event being staged in Ireland.

Chief Executive Tom Sears said: "We have put together a comprehensive programme against some strong opposition in order to give our players the best preparation possible for the World Cup qualifiers.

"They will face some senior sides while in Uganda that will test them and also play a competitive tournament that has high stakes for the other countries involved. Given that Kenya has already qualified for the World Twenty20 qualifiers next year we took this opportunity to really test our young players in a pressurised event which will stand them in good stead for when they travel to Ireland.

"They will spend a week in England getting acclimatised to European conditions and again play strong opposition including Middlesex Academy and a senior league club in Harrow.

"The players have been training continuously since they made it through the African qualifiers last year and by the time they arrive in Ireland will have been together full time for nearly a month. They have also played a number of fixtures against sides comprising of national and A squad players in recent weeks and done very well.

"We are determined to give them the best preparation for this key event and have invested heavily in their programme. The squad is full of talented players who have the ability to break through to the senior set up in the very near future and this high level of cricket they are playing can only help their progress," concluded Sears.
