India Kawasaki Motors (IKM) launched two high-end Ninja motorcycles in the Indian market today, taking the tally of models under this brand to four.
The bikes, the 1441 cc Ninja ZX 14R and the 998 cc ZX 10R introduced today, will be imported as completely built units. They have been priced at Rs 16.9 lakh and Rs 15.7 lakh respectively (ex-showroom Pune).
Thanks to its marketing collaboration with Bajaj Auto, Kawasaki’s existing bikes — the Ninja 300 and Ninja 650 — were retailed through Probiking showrooms where Bajaj Auto sells its range of premium motorcycles.
However, the Japanese company said it will set up exclusive showrooms to market this (1000+ cc) range of motorcycles and will man them with specially trained staff. It plans on one-two launches of this stature every year, Yuji Horiuchi, MD, IKM said.
Beginning with Maharashtra, IKM will expand its business territory in a phased manner, and has an initial sales target of 100 units per year. The first outlet is located in Pune.
