It’s the season of refreshes. After Xolo, Karbonn will be making minor improvements in the hardware of a popular mid-range phone from last year. Karbonn Titanium S5i, a refresh of the Titanium S5, has been listed at HomeShop18 for Rs 7,999 after a small discount. The Titanium S5i will take on the Xolo Q700S, which was launched a few days ago. But it’s likely to have a much lower price tag considering the wide gap in specs.
Karbonn’s budget warrior has dual-SIM (GSM+GSM) support, and runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, just like the Q700S. It also has the same display resolution of 480×854 pixels, but gets a larger 5-inch TFT LCD. One area where the S5i is at a disadvantage is the processor; it only gets a dual-core 1GHz CPU along with 512MB of RAM.
The S5i has quite a generic design; it’s one we have seen on hundreds of phones over the past year or so, so there’s nothing great about the phone from an aesthetic point of view. It has an 8-megapixel autofocus rear camera with LED flash, which is pretty terrific if the phone hits a sub-Rs 6,000 price tag. It also houses a 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera, though it might not amount to much.
The Titanium S5i handset comes with a 4GB in-built storage, and can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card. It has support for 3G, Wi-Fi for internet connectivity and Bluetooth, micro USB, and GPS for other options. It is backed by a 2000mAh battery, which sounds quite brilliant given the non-demanding hardware.
