England seamer James Anderson has been ruled out of the final Test against India in Chennai, skipper Alastair Cook confirmed on Thursday (December 15). With the pace spearhead feeling sore after the last Test in Mumbai, the England management has decided not to risk him for the dead rubber.
"It is a bit of everything, ankle and shoulder. A bit of bowling soreness. We are trying to look after him," Cook said on the eve of the Test.
Anderson missed the first Test of the series in Rajkot after having suffered a stress fracture in his right shoulder. He joined the squad ahead of the second Test in Visakhapatnam and picked up four wickets in the game. He went wicketless in the next two Tests in Mohali and Mumbai as England conceded the five-match series 3-0, with the last game still to play.
Stuart Broad, who missed the last two Tests due to an injury on his right foot, is in contention to replace Anderson in the playing XI. Broad picked up four wickets in the second innings of the second Test.
