The visit aimed at inspiring these scientific geniuses of the state, selected through Young Astronomer Talent Search (YATS) programme, was sponsored by Tata Steel and coordinated in association with the Pathani Samant Planetarium, Bhubaneswar.
Visit of the team to ISRO Satellite Centre (ISAC), engaged in developing satellite technology and implementation of satellite systems in the country, gave an opportunity to the students to learn about the evolution of the Indian satellites. They were given a guided tour by a senior scientist of the institute in the well-stocked museum in the campus and explained about various aspects of satellite making.
The tour, which was flagged off by the Chief Secretary of Odisha on 2nd of May from the state secretariat, was quite enriching as the team also had the privilege to see laboratories of the prestigious Indian Institute of Science and interact with Asst. The students also toured the Raman Research Institute, founded in 1948 by the Indian physicist and Nobel Laureate, Sir C V Raman, and were introduced his work and personal collections. The team’s visit to Heritage Centre & Aerospace Museum at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited with rare display of aircrafts of many genres and pictorial representation of evolution of aviation industry in the country was one of the profound remembrances, they carried home.
To see one of finest collection of geological items of the country the YATS team went to Geological Survey of India museum in the city and interacted with one of its Director, Mr J. N. Das. They also watched show at Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium and interacted with its Director Dr B. S. Shaylaja. The students with their respective guide teachers were led by Dr. Suvendu Pattnaik, Deputy Director of Pathani Samant Planetarium during this tour accompanied by a Tata Steel official.
