They say that Indian viewers are spoilt for choice. With very few restrictions on content available online and on mobile, the average Indian out there has plenty to choose from. This may not be all so easy as far as sports content is concerned. Think about the Indian Premier League and Star India provided free of cost access to content, both online and on mobile.

But with the success of the IPL digitally, Star are thinking about putting a paywall model in place, Live Mint reports. So gone are the days when everything related to the IPL is free of cost. Or that certainly would be the case if the paywall model comes into play. This means that one will have to shell out money to have access to any IPL-related content on web or on mobile.

The IPL has been a huge success for Star, who have a digital viewership running at 100 million as far as their mobile app, Hotstar, is concerned. It must be said that season nine of the IPL was a bit of a breeze as far as following goes. This because matches were as close as they possibly could have been.

The IPL is the one global sports brand India have. Paywall models in India are a concept still in the nascent stage. There is a lot of free content of all kinds available on the net, as well as on mobile. Then, it remains to be seen that how successful the paywall model for IPL would be.
