The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and Maharashtra Cricket Association have filed a joint Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court to allow IPL matches to be held according to the original schedule in Maharashtra. The decision to challenge the Bombay High Court’s order to shift all IPL matches out of the state post April 30 owing to the water crisis was taken earlier by the two associations and filed on Thursday.

Mumbai is home to Mumbai Indians whereas debutant franchise Rising Pune Supergiants led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni play their home games at Pune’s Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium.

Maharashtra Cricket Association president Ajay Shirke confirmed that his association had moved apex court but didn’t wish to elaborate further. Mumbai Cricket Association joint secretary Unmesh Khanvilkar told The Indian Express that the SLP has been filed hoping that the Supreme Court looks into the matter.
