The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has launched a competition in which it is offering a cash prize of US$ 10,000 to an individual or SME which develops the best and most innovative IPTV application based on ITU standards.
There is also a separate category in the ITU's global Application Challenge for entries by companies with fifty or more employees and public sector organisations. The showcase and awards ceremony will take place during the ITU Telecom World event, which is scheduled to be held in Geneva, Switzerland on October 24th-27th.
Applications must run over ITU-T IPTV standards, and any video content must be encoded using ITU-T H.264 video encoding. Those wishing to enter the competition must register by September 16th, with full details available here.
Deutsche Telekom has been running a similar competition for a few years now, with a total cash prize of €70,000 up for grabs across two categories.
