India took a 2-0 lead over Uzbekistan on Day 1 of the Davis Cup tie in Bengaluru on Friday. There were two grueling singles matches as Ramkumar Ramanathan beat Temur Ismailov 6-2, 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 and Prajnesh Gunneswaran defeated Sanjar Fayziev 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. This tie is the part of Round 2 of the Group 1 Asia/Oceania Zone match up.

A clean-sweep could not come through but India stamped their authority over
Uzbekistan by winning the Davis Cup tie 4-1 to advance to the World Group Play-offs, here on Sunday.

India's place in the World Group Play-offs, to be held in September, was secured once a 3-0 lead was grabbed yesterday in the Asia/Oceania Group I second round tie. The team was eyeing a whitewash but fell short in the second reverse singles' match.
