Post office savings accounts holders will have to maintain a minimum balance of Rs 500 or else a penalty of Rs 100 and GST will be charged, India Post said. The new rules are effective from December 11. Post office savings accounts currently offer 4% interest per annum on both individual and joint accounts.

Gurugram-based start-up TechEagle on Tuesday said its drone has successfully delivered a mail in Gujarat under a pilot project in collaboration with India Post, which could pave the way for postal deliveries by drones in the future.
The first such drone flight delivered the parcel in the Kutch region of Gujarat in less than half an hour, travelling a distance of 46 km, with a five-times faster speed than surface transportation, the deep-tech drone technology start-up said in a release.

The Department of Posts will provide concessional rates for transporting educational materials like textbooks through a service called Gyan Post, modelled on the book post system, Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia announced on Monday (April 28, 2025).
The service will have prices ranging from ₹20 to ₹100, for packages ranging from up to 300 grams to 5kg respectively.
