India, Pakistan set to renew rivalry next year
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has got clearance from the Indian government to play against arch-rivals Pakistan in a full series, the Pakistan Cricket Board has said.
According to a report in the Associated Press of Pakistan, the series will be held in December 2015 and will be 'hosted' by Pakistan in the UAE. "The PCB is hopeful that a final shape would be given by the BCCI to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between both the boards," a PCB official was quoted as saying in the report.
According to the MoU, India and Pakistan have agreed to play six bilateral series in the next five years, and the subject will be taken up by the heads of the respective boards at the International Cricket Council's (ICC) annual conference being held in Melbourne.
Former Pakistan fast bowler Sarfraz Nawaz welcomed the resumption of cricket between the two nations, attributing the breakthrough to the efforts of PCB chairman Najam Sethi. "Sethi had been paying special attention for the revival of Indo-Pak series and it is great to hear that," he said.
Another matter the PCB would be bringing up at the ICC conference is the reduction on the five-year ban imposed on fast bowler Mohammad Aamir, who was banned for spot-fixing in 2010, in order to facilitate a smooth rehabilitation and quick return to competitive cricket.
"(The) PCB chairman will try his level best to convince the ICC for a reduction in the young pacer's ban and giving him the permission to resume playing," the PCB official said.
