The Supreme Court appointed three-
member Lodha committee's
recommendation early this month,
that commercial advertisements in
cricket need to be restricted to just
lunch and tea breaks, and not allowed
between overs, has left the country's
biggest sports broadcast er Star TV
concerned about the sport's financial
health in the near future and many
possible implications.
The Justice Lodha Committee has
recommended that all existing
contracts for international Test &
One-Day matches be revised. It also
stressed that the new contracts
should ensure that only breaks taken
by both teams for drinks, lunch and
tea be used by the broadcasters to air
ads, as is the practice internationally .
