Idea Cellular , the country’s No 3 mobile carrier, said it will allow open market data recharges of 1GB and above to work on Idea's 2G, 3G or 4G networks without any differential rates, and this will be rolled out nationally by March 31.

"Idea's simplified data pricing will ensure data recharges across all technologies are available at the same price-point,” Sashi Shankar, the company’s chief marketing officer, said in a media statement Friday.

Customers, he said, can choose the recharge price on the basis of usage and volumes available in a pack, without having to worry about the platform the customer's device is logged in.

Product categories like sachets and freedom packs will also move subsequently to unified pricing and will be rolled out nationally in phases by the month-end.

Shankar expects Idea’s simplified plans to enable "consumers to enjoy benefits of high-speed internet on smartphones and be a part of the Digital India revolution".

In a separate development, Idea expanded its 4G coverage to Bihar & Jharkhand circles Friday, starting with Muzaffarpur. It will cover 18 towns including the major cities of Patna, Ranchi, Gaya, Sasaram, Motihari, Dhanbad, Bokaro by June.

Yah, that is great movement from Idea Cellular.
Now that is the same thing happened in Middle East, {UAE, KSA}.
If u handset support 4G network u will get 4g speed, and ur handset support 3G you will get 3g speed and so on.
Now I think Indian operator must learn from the idea.
