Most of the telecom service providers in India have already started offering a data service via 3G dongles, which comes with a built-in WiFi support. This means that the devices are mostly capable of serving as a WiFi hotspot and will allow more than 2 devices to be connected to it.
After MTS and Tata Docomo, it is now Idea's turn as it has launched its Smart 3G Wi-Fi dongle targeted towards home users, SOHO (Small Office/Home Office) consumers and business professionals.
The device is priced at Rs. 2,199 and offers connection to a total of 10 devices simultaneously. This could possibly be the first 3G WiFi dongle, which can give access to data to 10 devices.
Smart 3G Wi-Fi dongle comes with a powerful Wi-Fi antenna which allows it to provide download speeds of up to 21.6Mbps and upload speeds of up to 5.76Mbps. You can connect devices such as smartphone, a tablet, a laptop, a gaming device and a digital camera to a music player to it.
However, not all circles or states will be getting to use the dongle as Idea will only release the product in 11 markets within the country where it has established its 3G network. These states include: Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Goa, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.
Moreover, users can also select a 3G plan from a wide range which starts from Rs. 250 to Rs. 1,250.
