India’s third largest telecom operator Idea Cellular on Tuesday rolled out its 4G services in Pune and Nashik in a time of 45 days of spectrum allocation by DoT. The telco said that it has rolled out its network to cover 430 towns in Maharashtra and Goa with a population of 3.3 crore customers.
The telco has acquired a large quantum of spectrum in both FDD and TDD bands to expand its wireless broadband footprint in Maharashtra and Goa while also investing in
Optical Fibre Cable in the region, it said in a statement.
Idea’s spectrum portfolio in Mahrashtra region comprises of 900, 1800, 2100, 2300 and 2500 MHz bands. It will be further using TDD bands to expand wireless broadband services in future.
The company already has its 4G services live in Amravati , Aurangabad, Gondia, Kolhapur, Nagpur, Alibagh, Wardha, Jalna, Vasco, Panjim, Margoa etc.
“Idea has successfully transitioned to become a pan-India wireless broadband service provider, readying our over 186 million customers for the Digital age. With nearly 900 MHz spectrum in both FDD and TDD bands, Idea is preparing itself to substantially enhance customer’s Wireless Data experience and capture a higher share of the exponentially growing Mobile Data business. As the oldest and largest mobile operator in Maharashtra & Goa, Idea continues to invest in the market and lead the digital experience for our customers,” said Rajat Mukarji, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Idea Cellular.
The telco will also be offering complimentary 4G SIM card upgrade in Maharashtra and Goa. Prepaid or Postpaid customers upgrading to 4G SIM will also get promotional 2GB 4G free data, valid upto 10 days and 50 local Idea to Idea minutes valid for 5 days.
The company is offering a range of offers to expand its 4G footprint which includes 4G trial packs starting at Rs 47, 4G handset upgrade offer where user gets 9 GB free 4G data along with 1GB 4G/3G pack, and 1GB at Rs 51 with an upfront payment of Rs 1498.
“With 33.9% RMS and 2.5 crore active customers, Idea is the largest mobile operator in Maharashtra & Goa. Our consistent focus on achieving customer delight and continued investment in the circle has led us to set up the largest network comprising of over 27,000 cell sites, more than 50% of which is for wireless broadband services. With a wide range of affordable data packs and a strong content portfolio, we will continue to bring rich digital content such as Movies, Music, TV, Games, News, etc. for our customers in the region,” said Rajendra Chourasia, COO – Maharashtra & Goa, Idea Cellular.
Idea has also partnered with Samsung, Lenovo, Intex Technologies, Xiaomi and One Plus for its special offers on 4G smartphones.
